Swamp Series

My other home, away from NUUC, is up at Unicamp. Unicamp has a delicate beautiful,  biosphere, of forest, mossy caves, streams, meadows, pond and 2 acres of swamp. It is buggy and noisy and warm and so very alive. The cidas sing and the frogs call. This is a place of smells and sounds that are ancient. This is how mother earth cleans the water; of all that polutes it. This is my tribute to the possibly least popular  but most necessary part of our land.

The swamp.

This swamp and all of the water up near Unicamp is at risk due to Highland Farms turning 2300 acres of beautiful perfect farm land into an ugly noisy polluting quarry. This quarry will blite the land, polute the air, and if does not take the water away completely it will certainly foul it beyond any good swamps abillity to clean it.

These paintings are explorations in ways of painting with drips & gravity, with knife and with much watching of paint drying.

Look through the bayou

to see tendrils;

Hanging down,

Gnarly plants

Reaching up .

Knotted fingers grappling with your shoe lace.

Schlepping to find

Your foot is no longer attached to your shoe,

Which is Sl-oww-ily

Disappearing into the muck.

Swamps have purpose.

Nothing stops

Or stomps

The Process.

Bile regurgitated,

In . to . new .clean . water

Eventually.

Waves of heat.

Water in the air,

Creating golden mirages.

Ghosts of what once was.

Plants breathing, it in

Moving with deliberation

An agenda only the swamp knows.
